Week 8

During this week, the deadline for our music video filming inched closer and closer. Due to their requests, each of the 3 bands were only available to be met with this week – leaving very little time to prep their video upon hearing their ideas. Luckily, one of the bands didn’t require the location we had booked and instead can have their entire video filmed on greenscreen in the college studio. We’re set to record that band during the following week. The other band that we interviewed ended up not going any further due to a lack of communications or a concrete idea during the meeting. This did mean, however, that we could place more of a focus on the one band and use our limited time to ensure we make something special.

On Thursday of this week, we had to ensure that all our pre-production was completed and we were ready to film. On the day, I brought a clipboard and paper + pen in order to create all my necessary notes while waiting for others to arrive. There was a major setback due to one of our tutors not being able to bring the rest of the equipment and cameras due to a college-wide lockdown going into effect. We did eventually manage to start recording, despite a slow start, and didn’t stop our good pace until we had all our shots. It was an amazing day, and my first time being able to direct others from the capacity of having a DoP and assistant director to help me. This meant I could request a shot and have the order get taken on by someone else, whilst I could work on other things. It was an amazing experience, I learned so much, and I look forward to the future opportunities to record the other performances. We were also effective in dealing with extra time limitations as 2 of the band members had their own time limitations on the day. This meant that we lost the drummer part way through, and couldn’t use the full day for filming as we’d have lost too many members.
